What are the DYS disorders for adults ?

Dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysphasia, dyspraxia, dysgraphia…

DYS- means “dysfunction”.
There are different learning disabilities that can appear at an early age, which have nothing to do with intelligence level.

The “dys” disorders are:

  • Dyslexia: reading disorder (acquisition of written language),
  • Dysorthography: difficulties in acquiring spelling skills,
  • Dyscalculia: disorders of numerical activities (calculation, arithmetic…),
  • Dysgraphia: difficulties with writing and drawing,
  • Dysphasia: language disorder (oral expression),
  • Dyspraxia: disorder of motor development and writing (gestures, motor skills),
  • Dyschrony: difficulties with the notion of time.
